Importance Of Time Management For Students.

Time is a valuable wealth that is owned by everyone. It is more powerful than money or power. There is a saying that time and tide waits for none, so it is we, who have to keep our pace with time. Student life is where good and bad habits develop and affect the future of an individual. It is often advised by elders and teachers that every single second should be utilized. Students of this generation suffer from addiction to social media and games which affects their studies negatively. Therefore, time management skills should be taught to students at an early age so that they may keep a check on themselves. Counselors and parents should synchronize and watch the child closely to know his/her strengths and weaknesses. Accordingly,  a proper chart should be framed so that students can study effectively.

Why is time management important?

This is the most basic question asked by students. Time management is important for living an effective and efficient life. It has a great role in shaping the personality and character of an individual. Students are the potential leaders and shapers of the world. Due to any circumstance, if they cannot manage their time efficiently, we cannot expect them to manage issues of high importance and urgency . The importance of time management can be understood as-

• Timely goals- if there is proper time management in a student’s life, then all his goals will be achieved and there will be no pending work . In this manner, students can devote the remaining time to other important activities of life.
• Improved grades-when we have effective time management skills, then every subject is given enough time to study . Students who don’t study in the initial phase of the semester and rely on rote learning get poor grades in examinations. Studying a subject is a continuous process which should be done on a regular basis for understanding the concepts properly. This way, toughest questions in exams can be tackled with minimal efforts.
• Other activities- When a person has his schedule fixed, there is less chance for distractions. The student can invest time in sports and other activities which will in return help him in living a healthy life. Sports and outdoor activities cannot be ignored for studying, as it can result in poor physical, emotional and mental health.
• Stress management- If time is not managed properly then the first symptom which develops in a person is stress. This stress, if exceeds a normal level, affects other functions of the body. If not treated right, this can turn into depression. According to studies, a large number of young people suffer from depression when compared to people of other ages. This is a serious issue and the root cause is  lack of time management.
• Improved concentration- When time is divided equally into smaller targets, then concentration develops automatically. Concentration is a by-product of clarity which comes with effective management of time. Improved concentration helps in making better decisions in life.
• All-round development of personality– There are some children around us who excel in studies, sports and extracurricular activities. They are all rounders because they manage their time effectively and concentrate on particular work at one time. This is a life skill which should be learnt for personality development.
• Productivity– Division of goals into short targets helps in the completion of targets easily. This also increases the productivity of the work and develops a better understanding in the student. This can be possible only by utilising the time effectively.

Student life is full of ups and downs. It is the base camp of life which teaches us how to handle tough situations in future. Habits which are made in the early days of life shape the coming years and even the type of job one will get. It is very important to teach our students the value of time and skills by which they can manage their time effectively.
