How does WhatsApp Make Money?

Since its launch in 2009, WhatsApp has taken the world by storm and currently has over 1.5 billion users worldwide according to its website. It’s one of the most popular messaging apps on the planet, and it’s especially popular among millennials

For example, a recent survey found that as many as 71% of male millennials and 66% of female millennials use WhatsApp. If you’re part of that huge user base, you must have wondered at some point how WhatsApp makes money

WhatsApp Business

WhatsApp made a lot of people angry when it announced the introduction of a “business solution” called WhatsApp Business.

When launched in 2009, WhatsApp was free to use, with some restrictions. These included limiting the number of people that you could message at once, and only allowing messages to be sent between two phones registered with the same phone number.

WhatsApp Business is a paid service that allows businesses to send bulk messages via WhatsApp to their customers or contacts. It also offers more customization options for businesses that want to make sure their branding gets across clearly in their messages.

With the new plans in place, the company will charge enterprises a fixed subscription fee starting at $0.99 (around Rs 73) per month.

The company charges $1 per user per year for its business service. The amount has been set keeping in mind that most small and medium businesses are from markets like India and Brazil, where credit card penetration is low.

The business version of WhatsApp allows users to create a profile and send messages to their customers as well as people who do not use their service yet. There is also an option to add services such as online payments or video calls which can be used by both parties involved in a conversation at the same time.

WhatsApp Business could be a huge money-spinner for Facebook

Analysts believe that pursuing a paid model for WhatsApp Business is the right way forward for Facebook as it will help boost revenue for the messaging platform. They also believe that WhatsApp Business will contribute significantly to Facebook’s bottom line in future.

According to experts, WhatsApp has more than 1 billion users worldwide and many companies would like to use its services but do not want to pay for them. However, they may change their minds once they realize how beneficial it can be for their businesses.

The analysts say that if WhatsApp charges its users then those who do not pay will still have access to all of its features anyway – but only after waiting for a set period or downloading an app update that contains bug fixes or security updates (known as over-the-air updates).

WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, so it makes sense that they would use the same methods as their parent company when trying to make money from their messaging service. But there are some differences between how each platform targets users with ads:

WhatsApp’s targeting capabilities aren’t as advanced as those used by Facebook because WhatsApp doesn’t have access to all of our personal information like Facebook does (such as where we live).

However, this doesn’t mean that WhatsApp’s ads are any less effective than those shown on Facebook; they just don’t know as much about us personally so can’t tailor their offerings quite so accurately.

Though the company has not disclosed its plans for making money from WhatsApp yet, it is possible to make some educated guesses based on its past performance at Facebook and on some of the risks involved with being involved in these messaging markets.
The point is that the WhatsApp business model does seem to be working and that the app may make quite a bit of money for Facebook over time.
